The western approach to the
Cairngorms National Park is from the Great Glen past Spean
Bridge and on up to Loch Laggan. The park boundary is near the
eastern end of the loch. The settlement of Laggan is a few miles
further on. For the purposes of this website we use the term
"Laggan" to include east Loch Laggan, Strathmashie and this
general area.
The area has a magnificent
beauty to it and has many trails to explore as well as a nature
reserve just outside the boundary of the park.
In recent years the TV
program Monarch of the Glen was on location in this area for
most of the episodes. The sandy beach (unusual for a fresh water
loch) at Kinloch Laggan was a familiar feature in the program.

Although this is the western boundary of the park it has some spectacular scenery and walks and should not be missed.
