The
town of Ballater is east of Balmoral and Braemar and sits on the
River Dee. The magnificent countryside around the town is
steeped in history. Many visitors who come here often become
long term residents, a testament to the quality of life in this
beautiful area. Behind Ballater is the imposing mass of Loch na
Gar, a mountain of many moods but also of great beauty.
The town
itself has many shops and accommodation providers and is a great
centre for people visiting the general area. Its proximity to
the city of Aberdeen makes a busy wee place with day trippers
from the city particularly at the weekends.

There is an
excellent golf course in this town with stunning views of the
surrounding hills and forests. The club is open to visitors all
year round and has an excellent clubhouse with bar and catering
facilities. People travel from far and wide to play this great
course.
The Ballater Highland Games
is held annually on the second Thursday in August. The games
attract competitors from all over the world
and accommodation should be booked in advance to avoid
disappointment.
The
River Dee is famous world wide for its salmon fishing. to find
