Strathdon, Cairngorm Park, East

The village of Strathdon lies at the confluence of the river Nochty and the river Don. The of land along side the don east and west of the village is also know as Strathdon. At the head of Strathdon lies the ancient tower house of Corgaff Castle.

The origins of the castle date back to the mid 16th century. In the mid 18th century it was converted to house Government troops during the quelling of the Jacobite uprisings. The castle was fully restored to its former glory in the 1960's

The castle is now open to the public in the summer months and is definitely worth a visit.

  Strathdon

There largest community in the Strathdon area is the village of Bellabeg. Annually at the end of August the clansmen of Lonach Highlanders march from Strathdon village to Bellabeg, a great spectacle for visitors which marks the start of that Highland Games.

The nearby Lecht Activity Centre, in the mountain pass between Strathdon and Tomintoul,  offers activities all year round but is most known for the gentle Skiing area. Gaining in popularity however is mountain biking and carting in the summer and autumn months.
