Crathie, Cairngorm Park, East

The village of Crathie, famous for its proximity to The Royal Balmoral estate, is a small village sitting on the river Dee. The river and the riverside forests are stunning. As there is free access to virtually all land in Scotland there are walks here that are very close to the castle.

Crathie Kirk is often seen on TV when the Royal family are in residence at Balmoral as they do of course visit the Kirk every Sunday.

Check out of "Fly Fishing" pages to get information on how to fish the excellent salmon fishing river Dee.

The village straddles the river and is joined by Crathie Bridge designed and built by Brunel and completed in 1857.

Balmoral itself is a great destination for things to do as there are extensive gardens and grounds to tour either by yourself or with guides. There are also often running events and car rallies in the grounds.
