Aberlour, Gateway to Cairngorms National Park

Aberlour is at the north eastern fringe of the Cairngorms National Park and lies on the famous river Spey and not surprisingly is in prime malt whisk distillery country. In fact the Aberlour distillery itself is famous around the world. If you visit this town then you really should visit the distillery and have a fascinating tour of the whisky making process.

The Speyside Way, one of Scotlands long distance paths runs from Buckie on the coast to Aviemore and runs through Aberlour. It was originally opened in 1981 and is now becoming very popular for both those that want to walk the entire 65 miles and of course those that walk the Speyside in shorter increments. That part of the route at Aberlour is particularly scenic and pleasant.

Many anglers use Aberlour as their base to enjoy the Speyside fishing experience during the day and the excellent bars and restaurants in the general area in the evenings. There are ample shops, restaurants and other facilities in the area.

The Aberlour and Strathspey Highland Games are an excellent spectacle for visitors every year around the beginning of August. They take place at the Alice Littler Park.
